Intro to Division

 We have just finished up with multiplication...for now. We will still be doing the times tables check-in to ensure mental math practice but we are now starting on division.


The task:

Using base ten blocks, make the number 279. We then discussed the different base ten that we used to represent the number:


I then gave them the challenge of splitting 279 into 9 EQUAL GROUPS:


We then discussed the division vocabulary and what each part of the equation means. I then asked them to find a different amount of groups that they can split 279 into EQUAL GROUPS:
